Like some of the other volunteers, I have daughters. My girls are of infinite value to me, and most of what I do in my life is oriented around their happiness and well-being. Both my girls are currently young teenagers; in fact, one of them recently turned 13. Their being exploited in this way is the worst possible thing I can imagine. That’s why, when I first found out about Reclaim 13, I knew that I could not stand by and do nothing while these things were happening to children just like my own – children who have infinite worth to a heavenly Father who created them and loves them enough that He gave His son for them.
I first found out about Reclaim13 through my at job at Cultivate, the agency that does all of Reclaim13’s brand and creative work. At first I didn’t really think there was anything I could do, but then I was asked to help with some technology issues at Cherish House. After meeting other volunteers, I realized there were actually quite a few different ways to be involved. I’m now on the Emergency Response Team, have acted as security at some events, have spoken at the Gala, and have even hobbled through a 5K to help raise money.
It’s my hope that those reading these stories will be inspired to join in with the vital work that Reclaim13 is doing. I really believe that if we all stand together against exploitation in its many forms then we will have the power to #Take13Back.
