I really became aware of this issue after visiting a safe house during a trip to Haiti. It was then that I truly understood the hurt these girls were experiencing and the desperate need they had to be loved in the right way. Almost immediately, I knew that God was calling me to use my own experiences, both the good and the bad, to help encourage and heal girls who had been severely damaged by sexual exploitation. In June of 2016, I joined Reclaim13 as a volunteer and became part of a community of people all working toward the same goal of freeing young women from the bonds of exploitation.

Initially, I became part of the Events Team helping with the Gala, Showers for Cherish House, Special Event Support, the Golf Outing and the Love>Fear 5K. In time I also became a part of the First Responder Team where I have had an opportunity to support staff at Cherish House and to assist in escorting girls to the house as needed. I am also blessed to be a part of the Mentor team where I spend a couple of hours each week with one of the girls hanging out, talking, and practicing life skills. My heart’s desire is to show these girls what true love really looks like, and to spread the message that love is greater than fear. I have no doubt that through love and determination we can #Take13Back.
