Reclaim13 is a non-profit working to end the cycle of sexual exploitation than can lead to child sex trafficking.  We work in the areas of Healing, Prevention Education, and Community Engagement.

My story begins in January of 2013. After many years of seeking God’s direction for something specific to work on for His Kingdom, I was given a very direct answer. While praying one day, asking the question of what to do, I heard a very clear response: “I want you to take up the fight against sex trafficking.” At first, I was stunned - I had not expected that answer at all. I knew very little about trafficking at the time. In fact, if I knew anything, it was that I wasn’t really interested in getting involved. But God was very clear and reassured me that it was exactly the thing He had for me to do.

After some research, my wife and I took the opportunity to travel to Cambodia where we visited several groups working with young girls rescued from brothels. I was deeply impacted by the trip and learned a lot about this complex issue. On my return, I visited with Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart who is on the front lines fighting trafficking in Chicago. He explained that sex trafficking of minors is a major issue right here in America and that most people have no clue it’s happening. When I asked what I could do to help, he told me there was a desperate need for housing for young girls under 18 who had been rescued from sex trafficking.

My wife and I have five young daughters at home, so once I had learned more about about the issue it became very personal for me. If I weren’t around, I would certainly want someone to fight on my girls’ behalf. I knew right then that I had to stand up and fight for all those without an advocate of their own. Shortly thereafter, I joined forces with Cassandra Ma, Reclaim13’s Executive Director, and we began the work of opening a safe house. God opened one door after another. In a relatively short period of time, an amazing house was donated to the cause, and by some miracle it was already zoned for group home use. Through the dedication and hard work of a number of Reclaim13 volunteers, the house officially opened its doors for its first residents in January of 2016.
